When your driving either on post, coming off, going to North Pole, or coming from North Pole during the day time and you come to that intersection with the four traffic lights that take you either to base, to North Pole, Steese Express or Airport Way, everything seems to be in order, you get where you need to be on time. Most of us have been through these lights plenty of times and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. It is not until you come to the intersection sometime after mid-night when things get out of whack. So lets say your coming off post at one o'clock a.m, and you pull up to the traffic light and stop, your light has just turned red so your just waiting three more turns, now your waiting two more turns one more turn, then you take your foot off the break because you see the light just before yours turn yellow and your getting ready to go, and just as it turns red the light after yours turns green then you have to slam on breaks. Your thinking "what the heck just happened." So you pull up some more because you think "maybe I'm not close enough," and it skips you again. Then you pull back some because you think "well maybe I'm up too far," and again it skips you, now you don't know what to do. Then out of no where it turns green and you slam on the gas pedal to get the heck out of there as fast as possible, because you don't want to get stuck again.
The city doesn't know this because most of their work is done before this time. And in the summer they work on the roads so their work is during the day time. And even if they were to experience a moment like that, they still might just blow it off because they don't think that it happens too often.
If you work a grave yard shift this can really hurt you, because most people when they go to work they make sure they have just enough time to start their car and drive to work to be on time with no time to spare. Everything is going good until you come to the light and it skips your turn about two times and makes you late. Now you have to tell your boss you was late because the traffic light skipped you, can you imagine what your boss is thinking in their head, because they don't know about the light, so you know that they think your lying, but they don't tell you they just say okay. The next day it happens again, you tell them the same thing but this time they think it's just an excuse, but still they let it go. For some reason you still seem to go that way even though you know it's just going to happen again.
What about when you have a date, you don't want to be late on the first date, but you can't control the time or that light so what happens, your late because of that light. Now the first time your late your date thinks nothing of it, but too many times and you won't have to worry about being late late for that date anymore because you won't be seeing them anymore.
A lot of times when people come to that light they stop and wait for their turn as normal, but when they see that it skips them they get impatient, they might wait one maybe two more times, but eventually they will loose patience and just run it. And you know they have to really be impatient because they know that there is a camera above the traffic light and they still just run it, even if they know the risks. If only ten maybe even fifteen people got together and either complained which might get them no where or requested that they fix the lights then it would make everyone else's life just that much better.
Although the Airport Way street lights work during the day, the city should come at night to service them because they often skip turns, it would help people to get where they need to go on time, and they would have less people running red lights.

Week 6 Essay 2 Final Draft
Congental Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis is also known as CIPA by doctors and the families who have someone with the disease. CIPA is a very rare genetic disorder in which the person who has it feels no pain at all. Oh how the kids would love that, to be able to fall down and not get hurt. Now as a kid I'm pretty sure we all couldn't stand the thought of going to the hospital, and when we found out that we had to go we tried everything in our power to make our parents change their mind, but it never worked not one time. And after every visit it always ends in the same way, you get the diagnosis, you get the shot, you feel the pain, and then you get the bad tasting lollipop and go home in pain and agony.
Now put yourself in your parents shoes, they don't like the fact that we have to go to the doctor, because they know as a kid we will leave in tears, and it's nothing they can do about that. But once it's over we don't have to return for awhile, but the families who have kids with CIPA go to the hospital three times as much as the average family. And some of them actually go everyday, to get anti-biotics and other things along those lines. The parent has to get up everyday; early in the morning and take the child to the hospital just to get them prepared for another day. Imagine how the parents feel to have to take turns out of their everyday life to go visit the hospital, I would imagine it would get very exhausting. The only problem is it has to be done, there is no way around it. It's the same as going to the hospital as a healthy child except without the pain and tears, and it's everyday or more often than normal, and everyday it gets even more exhausting for both the parents and the child.
If a child without CIPA feels severe pain in the abdomen their parents will notice it right away because of the screaming and crying. So what does the parent do, they take them to the hospital to see what is going on only to find out that they have a minor case of food poisoning. But what about the kids who have CIPA they wouldn't be able to feel the pain. They do experience some kind of dis-comfort but the problem with that is that they might think it's normal. They would think it's nothing and wouldn't think to tell their parents and just go on about their day, it's like when a healthy person begins to get a cold they start to sneeze and get a running nose but they think it's just allergies, until a few days later they don't feel like getting out of bed. That's how they see it, they think it's nothing and blow it off. Some of those parents fear what they don't know, and the fact that their child could have internal damage and don't know it, it forces them to live in a world of constant fear. They can have fractured bones and wouldn't be able to tell their parents, sometimes people that can feel pain, breaks or fractures bones and don't even know it.
It's because they can't feel pain internally, why they have to have frequent or daily visits to the emergency room. Also what about the very serious conditions or diseases that causes pain first then the fatal effects later, they might not be able to catch it in time. Also concussions are a problem as well because healthy kids can have them and don't know it so just picture the ones with CIPA.
Remember all the fun things you use to do as a child like, jump from bed to bed, or climb trees, then you would fall down and get hurt and your parents would bring the alcohol that makes it hurt even more, then you would get back up and start it again like you didn't just get hurt. Well the parent's of the children who have CIPA are less fortunate, they may never get the chance to see their children do those fun things because of a harmless injury that could eventually become serious if left untreated.
Some of the parents that have kids with CIPA allow their children to play and have fun, however they are limited. The victims of CIPA don't sweat, so their body can't cool itself down like ours can so heat is dangerous to them, so the kids aren't able to stay outside in the summer for too long. Also if the parents do let their children play, every time they are done playing the child's whole body has to be checked for small cuts and bruises that could get infected leading to serious injury. Some of the parents that have children with CIPA go through with this and just do the daily checks, but other parents just can't handle it and think it's best for their child to stay inside, and so they miss the moments where they get to see their child ride a bike and clean their wounds after a fall.
Most of the children if they make it past the rough childhood don't get the chance to die of old age. It's either a heat stroke because they don't sweat or of something internally that they are unaware of. So feeling pain might be a good factor in our everyday life, after all how else would we know not to touch the stove, that's how we learn about pain as a kid through experience.
Although kids who have Congental Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis feel no pain and they think everything is okay, the disease causes great suffering for the parents of inflicted children, because of the horrible visits to the hospital their kids have to endure everyday, the thought of their child having internal damage and they don't even know it, and because of the things they won't be able to see their kids do as a child.

Week 10: Rough Draft
Although the Airport Way street lights work during the day, the city should come at night to service them because they often skip turns, it would help people to get where they need to go on time, and they would have less people running red lights.

Week 9:Grammar Girl 49 Run-on
At first I thought I knew what run-on sentences were, but it turns out I only knew a small portion of what a run-on sentence is. As a kid writing papers I never thought to put any punctuation in my papers so as you can imagine yes it was all one long sentence. The period didn't come until the end of my paper. Teachers never said anything about it perhaps it was because i was young.
It wasn't until I hit the fifth grade when I started getting advice about them. They went as far as having me write papers with other students. As I got older and got a better understating of a run-on sentence I started having less of them in my paper until I thought that I didn't have any of them in my paper. Now it turns out after hearing this Grammar Girl lesson that I still have them in my paper there just shorter sentences. I read some of my previous papers and just about all of them have at least a few run-on sentences in them. That means that every paper I've done has had a run-on sentence in them all the way up until now, well at least I know now.

Week 7&8: Reading Response 3
I agree with williamson's suggestion about "collegiate sports are a way out for poor and working-class students" to an extent. The only reason why I wouldn't agree with his suggestion is because not everyone is in the same position or the same situation. For the ones who are actually struggling with money and trying to find ways to survive than yes it is a way out for them. However, there are athletes who are financially set and don't have to worry about money because their parent's pay for their education if not the school. And these are the one's who are just playing for the love of the game or because it's just something to do to pass the school time. Another reason I wouldn't agree is because not everyone who is poor can play sports or if they can there is no actual guarantee that they are good enough to get in college off of their skills and even if they do get in that doesn't mean that they are good enough to stay on the team and most college coaches probably don't care about the situation of that player.
The bar has been lowered a lot since the past to the present. It's not as true today as it was in the past. Now-a-days it seems as if colleges will take any athlete just because of a certain skill they have and they don't care if they posses any other skills or if they are what's good for the team. Also it would seem as if the generations get smarter as they get younger, which means that they would actually be financially set already and wouldn't have to depend on collegiate sports to survive. There are 19-year-old that have better credit than a lot of adults.

Week 7&8: Reading Response 2
Goodman assumes that her Boston Globe audience knows about the Fiji's and how they use to be big and think it was beautiful. She mentions that after the television came to Fiji that's when everything went out of whack, she also brings up eating disorders and vomiting to lose weight of teenagers. Goodman's argument also thinks that the television make women care about the way they dress. Early in Goodman's argument she mentions that giving compliment's consisted of saying "You've gained weight." But of course we Americans do not take that as a compliment.
In Goodman's argument she says that "Fiji is the exact opposite of America. Given the facts that she introduced to us it is true. We as America think that big is bad and we starve ourselves to lose weight, we give up satisfying our taste buds to satisfy our mirror. We weaken our immune system by not get the proper vitamins. We take pills to help us skip another meal. And then she says "it's like someone out a mirror in the face of Fiji by bringing in the television." Even though it only had one channel that channel caused the "teenage vomiting to lose weight rate to increase to 15 percent. Eating disorders increase to 29 percent that's double what they were before, and 74 percent of the teenagers said that they often felt too big of fat all facts according to Goodman's argument." Goodman mentions specific television shows like "Ally Mcbeal" and "90210" as well as "E.R" that she thinks had some kind of affect on what teenagers and women think in Fiji.

Week 7&8: Reading Response 1
The "Sikhs Proud to be Americans," have five pictures in that one ad to show. In each picture they have some kind of head covering that closely resembles a turban. Also in each photo they have something to that they are patriotic or have an American heart. At the bottom of each photograph there is a shadow picture of the Statue of Liberty. These images were probably chosen because of the whole September 11th, thing to show others the difference. They are representing the ones that in a lot of ways resembles terrorists. They are trying to tell us that there is a difference between them and terrorist.
The repeated picture of the shadow Statue of Liberty at the bottom of the ads are representing them as an a American. It's to let everyone know that their heart is an American heart. The message that they are sending is "how can they be terrorist if they have an American heart." The role of this visual argument is to try and get America to see that we do have allies that very closely resembles terrorist and that we are so blinded by September 11th that we are just hurting or possibly killing our allies.
We are the audience, America. As mentioned before our minds are clouded by the September 11th terrorist attack that we are blinded by who our allies. They are trying to get us to understand that we shouldn't judge them by what they around their heads or what they look like but judge them by their hearts.

Week 6: Reading Response 2
During this whole dispute most of the issues in the emails and blogs were about the wording of the captions. While there were some emails and blogs that had other concerns most were either confused or just plain angry with the wording, making this a "definitional argument." The relevant terms a "finding" and "looting." Some people describe finding as something not in a place to be bought and isn't already owned by someone else. Now the term "looting" has several meanings in different situations. Lets say there is a riot, then the term "looting" means going into a store of any kind and coming out with any type of item that the person did not pay for. Now on the flip side lets say there is a natural disaster and everything is destroyed but grocery stores. "Looting" is now defined as going into a store and coming out with items that are not of survival items and have not been paid for.The world just doesn't see eye to eye on these types of situations. People define those two term differently every time, some go by the basic definition of them and others define them according to other peoples nationality.
Some say that "finding" is walking or driving somewhere and there is some kind of item that catches your interest, and it's not already owned by someone else. Now that's hard because how often do you find something that hasn't already been previously owned by someone else, chances are slim to none of that ever happening. Others say "finding" is when you see something of interest and is not right then and there owned then it's the finders, this is a much easier definition. "Looting" is more difficult, some define "looting" according to the situation, and some say that if your a certain race it's either "finding" or "looting."
I too have different definitions for both of the terms. I prefer the term "finding." In both photographs they are finding, it's just that the one on the left just so happens to find a grocery store with a larger amount of items, and the one on the right didn't.

Week 6: Reading response 1
The visual argument by Mike Lester "It's GOT to Be the Shoes" is about a card board man with a height requirement with the words "You Must Be This Tall To Enter College." There is a young man about to enter, now in actuality he doesn't meet the requirements to be in that college but his shoes that he has on gives him that extra boost he needs to enter. His shoes say "racial preferences," and the young lady behind him is saying "It's GOT TO BE THE SHOES." This argument is stating that some would consider having racial preferences would make them a bigger person.
The cartoon by Dennis Draughan, "Supreme Irony," is about the supreme court trying to make a decision on whether there should be a diversity in races. Now while there are seven men and two women that's not the issue of that cartoon, the irony is that there is only one African American among the supreme court. There isn't going to be very much difference in the opinions of the supreme court because they don't have much diversity among them.
The visual argument by Mike Thompson, "Daniel Lives on Detroit's East side," is about a young African American who has to face all these obstacles in life and yet makes it to college but a women considers that a break. African Americans encounter a lot of negativism that makes it hard to get into college, however, with some "studying hard" and a little "affirmative action," it can be done.
The cartoon by Signe Wilkinson, "Admissions" is about a group of young adults who are in college. One of which is an African American. There's one person who didn't get in and he blames it on the African American who is labeled a minority. This argument is trying to say that even when African Americans get into college they still have to hear other people's mouths that is outside of college as well.
The visual argument by Dean Camp "Pricey" is about a young man who is trying to get into college but is being chased by another man who is reminding him of the expense of college. This cartoon wants people to know that yes college can be "pricey" but we should still go because it's worth it. The most effective one is the "Daniel Lives on Detroit's East side," by Mike Thompson and the least effective one is "Pricey" by Dean Camp. Mike Thompson's cartoon is the most effective because those are things African American's really encounter while trying to be successful. Dean Camp's cartoon is least effective because most people don't care how much it cost to get into college they just want to get in.

Week 6: Plagiarism Response
I thought i knew all there was to know about plagiarism, I was wrong. I knew that you had to put quotes around words that are being spoken or were written by another person. But i didn't know that you had to give credit to information that is not "common knowledge."

Week 4:Grammer Girl Response
The Grammar Girl's suggestions were interesting to hear although some of them seemed unnecessary to me, to elaborate on that the one where she suggests reading backwards from finish to start. I tried it for a little while but then things just got out of wack, it started to get a little confusing. The "print" suggestion is a fair proof reading tip. That way you can get a chance to see your work up close and make notes or mark on it if you need to. But that's not always an option, sometimes the work has to be rushed or a printer might not be available the particular time.
I put two together and found that it was the most effective. The reading out loud suggestion worked in my favor mostly because that;s how I read. When I read in my head for some reason my mouth says the words but my mind doesn't it's like it wonders off thinking of other things while I'm still saying the words. The fresh start suggestion I'm sure most of my classmates used because it's recommended we try the four suggestions on our first un-graded assignment and I haven't read that in forever. I found a number of errors in my assignment one of which was in the title of my work, making errors right away, imagine that. But most if those errors were minor but still counts.

Week 5: LEAD SENTENCE
Shelly sat up paralyzed with fear. www.geocities.com
Jane Lebchenco, the Oregon marine biologist President Obama picked to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA.)
These lead sentences are both summary leads. The first one caught my attention because it sounds like it's about to be a scary story in which i happen to love scary stories. I favor the second one because i want to be a biologist and almost anything dealing with science is interesting to me.

Week 5:Reading Response 3
The multiple audiences for "i am my anti-drug" are the ones who stereotypes, as well as the ones who are being stereotyped against. The advertisement is addressing the audience who judge people. Everyday people mostly young teenagers or young adults are being judged just by how they dress and the way they look, as well as the way they talk. The people doing the stereotyping don't care about who they judge and they don't care if they were wrong, well for about ten minutes they do, but it doesn't take them long to go back to judging. The invoked audience are the ones who are being stereotyped against. Everyday they have to worry about it, they get up and stress about what to wear, how to do their hair a certain way, and speak a certain way. After what feels to be an eternity of trying to please those who judge they still fall victim to it to them there's no escaping it. Then they think "well if they think i do it I might as well do it." They think if they look at them that way no matter what they do then they should be that way.
All three ads focus on illegal drug use, but there are three different types of audience that are being targeted. The first ad "He might dump me" targets people who have either family, friends, spouses, or couples who are using illegal drugs and that they should step up to the plate and say something, it could change alot . The second ad about "regret" targets the ones who uses drugs but have not gotten caught or into serious trouble yet. The last three are about people who are being stereotyped.
The "I am My Anti-Drug' is the most effective because the other two when faced in those situations are a lot harder to deal with it's a lot harder to act upon it. It also lets people know that it's okay to dress and look a certain way and still be successful, and also the people who judge that they may look like they use illegal drugs but that's not always the case. It is a general effective way because there are people who do take advice and put it to good use.

Week 5:Reading Response2
To politicize religion means to say that religion is choosing a side. You have Democrats and then you have Republicans. Ex-President George W. Bush is a republican, so if he had spoke at Calvin College he basically would have been choosing a side for religion when the actual odds of religion choosing a side are against him. For instance, everyone at the Calvin College might not be a christian, so they might be enraged or might not care at all. And to extend on that everyone at Calvin College might not be a Republican. You can always have a christian who is a Democrat as well as a Republican who doesn't believe in religion at all or they just might not be a christian.
The ones that signed "An Open Letter to the President" most likely had no intentions of politicizing religion. Because like John Zwier they probably looked at the other aspects of the situation. What they could have been looking at is someone with power who shares the same beliefs as they do. Or they also could have been looking at the fact that the president was coming to speak at the school which can give them an opportunity.
It is possible not to politicize religion in American society just because of the many combinations that you have. As mentioned before you can have Democrats who are Christians, you can have Republicans who doesn't believe religion, and Republicans who aren't Christians. So in actuality the only group of people who would agree with with the ex-president would have been Republicans who are Christians. It definitely doesn't benefit any society to politicize religion because how would you satisfy those who don't share the same beliefs as you things could get out of hand.

Week 5:Reading Response 1
The challenges of polling minority communities are that minority groups make up a smaller proportion of the population, which results in the difficulties that interviewers have when trying to reach them. Even when finding a group a group of minorities they have to be suitable for polling, and if they're not suitable then the call is wasted which is a significant expensive factor. Another challenge of polling minority communities is if the respondents do not speak English then the interview protocols have to be converted, so that the minorities are interviewed by people who are fluent in their language. It's also a good idea to match the interviewers' with the race of the minority communities.
These types of problems arise because the polls for the minority communities have to be as precise as possible and it seems the only way of achieving that goal is by interviewing the right minority groups with the right interviewers, and because they are minorities they are difficult to track down, and so finding the right minority to be interviewed is even more difficult. Polling minority communities is important because the minority views contrast with whites as well as others among other minorities. If not done than the margin of error in the general population is plus or minus 3% points at a confidence level of 95%. By not doing so than the minority groups most likely will feel left out thus feeling stereotyped against.

Week 4: Final Draft Hesitation
Although hesitation is instinctively thought to be a bad action, it can be the best thing we do because of money reasons, the risks that come with actions without thinking, and things that will affect us permanently in the long run.
When you plan to go to the mall most of the time people have what they are going to buy already in their minds, but somehow somewhere along the line of walking into a mall and trying to get what you came for you get distracted by that one store that always has something that makes you buy it as soon as you see it. Okay so now you have walked in that store picked up the item that caught your eye but then you realize you can't have that item without this item to go with it so you get that too. Now you're on your way to the cash register all of a sudden more items just so happen to fall in your hands and you think "well it's here I might as well get it."
This is called impulse buying, and a good business knows that if they display something people will but it, we all do it. Do you know how much money you would save if you hesitated a little bit before you actually bought something. If you stopped and actually thought about it, all sorts of reasons will pass through your mind like the cell phone bill that was due two days ago, or some money that you owe someone who just so happens to be the cashier that rings you up. So stop, hesitate and go home and sleep on it because 80 percent of the time when you wake up you're not going to have interest in it, however if you still have the desire to get it then you know you really wanted it and by all means buy it.
How often do you think before doing something, not very many times I'm guessing, after all why should you have to think before going up or down the stairs or eat a bowl of cereal. Our bodies are so use to doing things without thinking that we just do it. It's Friday night your phone has been ringing off the hook everyone is texting you telling you to go to the concert every one's going to be there. You get up to go ask your parents to borrow the car and let them know what time you will be back, you go in and pop the question, and the answer is no. So now your parents are sleep and the keys are on the counter, you think to yourself I'll just be gone a few hours, however you don't think about the risks that follow so you snatch the keys, stuff your bed to make it look like you're sleeping and leave. The concert is nearly over everyone heads out to their cars and tries to leave all at once, common sense would tell people to wait a few minutes, let it clear out some but do we think about that no. So as you're pulling out you see some one's headlights coming at you your first reaction is to step on the breaks which causes you to stop right in front of them which makes the crash look like a capital "T." All kinds of thoughts are passing through your head the two main thoughts are "what if I had sped up instead of pressing the breaks I might have gotten out of their way," also the one thought that rings over and over, "what if I hadn't have taken the car in the first place." Imagine if we hesitated and examined both sides of a situation before doing something, picture how much grief you would save yourself and others.
Different people have different opinions on tattoos, some hate them, some like them, and others say they like them but it's not for them. People get tattoos for many reasons like to represent where they are from, to portray who they are, because a family member or someone close to them has past away, for tradition and culture, and believe it or not there are people who get a tattoo just because they can, those are the tattoos that make no sense. For those who just get them for no reason do you stop to think how it might affect you permanently in the future. When you have a scar like a burn on some part of your body sometimes you think, "I wonder what my skin looked like before that." That's how it is with a tattoo, people get them and then wonder what their body parts looked like before the tattoo, by that time it's too late. There is a way to remove a tattoo but that leaves a nasty scar that looks worse than having the tattoo, in which both are permanently on you for ever. The worst part is tattoos don't look as good when you get older as they do when you are young. Smaller tattoos look alright when you get old it's the bigger ones that you have to stretch out just to see what it is. young men often make the mistake of getting their girlfriend's name tattooed on them and most of those relationships don't last but the name is stuck there. If we hesitated before spending money on things we don't need, before acting on impulse, and before getting tattoos that will affect us permanently we can save ourselves a lot of headaches and embarrassing moments in the mirror in the future.

Week 3:Reading Response
When Lamott says "the fantasy of the uninitiated," she means the people who aren't writers. After all if your not a writer how can you truly understand how it is to have to write something that will be published and made available to the world. Lamott says "more or less" because while she trust the whole process of the "shitty first draft" she still had the fear of someone somehow finding and reading her first draft before she got the chance to fix it up. Some parts of her wariness is personal because that's how SHE! feels, and all writers don't feel the same way she does, however she is speaking for all writers because all writers go through a difficult time when writing. All writers are worried about how the public views something they have written. Writing a first draft is more about the process, I agree to an extent but you have to have a little bit of writing about the product in the first draft otherwise you would just have a lot of things that come to mind on your paper.
Lamott's writing style helps her make her point by writing about examples and past experiences as well as feelings. Reading an essay that doesn't have any feelings or past experience in it is boring to read, you can be Reading it and by the time your done reading you wouldn't even remember what it was your were reading. she also puts thoughts about what other people would think about her work if they were to read her first draft.
Lamott writes about how difficult it is to begin writing, that's how it is with most writers difficult to get started, that's how I write it takes me a minute to get an introduction but once I get that down I'm good to go. I agree with the suggestions. If you write more than you have to once you do all the editing your essay will still meet the required length. I also agree with the fact that she says you should write childish feelings and words because it might just fit right in and if it doesn't then you can always cross it out.

Week 4:Reading Response Part 2 America's Aspects
Every single one of those photographs represent some part of our American culture that we are or want to share with other countries. Some are good American cultures in which I am proud to share it while the others represent how disgusting and cruel America can be. There are also some that portray both the good and as well as the bad culture of America. But that is America as we know it we love it and we hate it.
The photograph by Les Stone, Advertisement for Metropolitan Life Insurance sends out a positive aspect. Metropolitan Life Insurance is commonly known in America which means that America wants Taipei to have good and reliable life insurance. And because Snoopy doesn't really talk he is neutral, Snoopy can be advertised speaking in any language.
The Corbis Sygma poster of the film "Titanic" is in the middle. The aspect that i feel is being exported is mixed because while it is the story of how two Americans fall in love it also shows how we can be selfish and think only about our selves when facing a crisis.
Tatiana Markow's McDonald's in Shanghai photo sends a positive aspect as well. McDonald's is inexpensive and very delicious. Some even show favoritism it says America is thinking about Shanghai's wallets as well as their bellies. Koren Ziv's Nike in Jerusalem photo graph sends a positive aspect of America. Nike can be a bit costly at times but you have to spend money to save money. Their footwear as well as their clothing line is durable and comfortable for the many many people that do alot of walking in Jerusalem.
Alcohol is a door to America;s ugliest problems. The photo by John Van Hasselt, Advertising Budweiser is a negative aspect of America. There are very few people however they do exist who drink for great taste. Alot of America's population who drinks alcohol are teenagers who can't or don't know who to handle it. The message I get from this photo is beer makes America do some insane things lets make China do some ignorant things along with us. America is trying to relay positive aspects to other countries so that we can get along, however we sometimes relay negative ones because we export the wrong things.

Week 4:reading response Part1 Cartoon arguments
The cartoon that I find the most successful is "An excerpt from Men Are from Belgium Women Are from New Brunswick, by Roz Chast." I feel this one is the best because to me it has the primary definition of a visual argument. It also has both the male and female language where as the others don't. Most of the other visual arguments only show or stress the male language in a dull way while Roz Chast's visual argument has both and was humorous. I find it interesting how the female visual argument would out do all the males, you would think that the male visual arguments would have been better, after all it's four against one, Roz was out numbered and yet she emerged victorious. Roz visual argument has a better understanding of the communication separation.
The visual argument that I thought was the least successful was "And do you, Deborah Tannen, think they know what they're talking about, by Peter Steiner." My reason for voting this one as the least successful is because the visual argument doesn't really say much, we can gain a lot of Information by looking at a picture that doesn't even have words but when you look at that one it says little to nothing at all, it's like a whisper in your ear that you can't even hear. In this argument you would have to look at the facial expression of the woman after the question has been asked. The only problem with that is not everyone can read facial expressions especially in a cartoon. However i do understand her facial expression, the expression i get from her is "who him, no not really." But not everyone is going to understand that from the cartoon.

English 111: Week 2 Reading Response
In Sea's argument he's trying to say a few things. One of those points being women aren't the only ones who have to worry about sexism, that it takes place in both genders. He's also trying to let us know that it's not good to portray men doing things he feel a woman should be doing and that with every commercial to comes out portraying men as feminist it's actually going to have the opposite affect on men and that when publicly portraying men that way they risk an ever more degrating response on women so that we can prove our masculinity. He claims "that the television's portrayal of men does just as much to hurt their cause as a women." Sea also claims that they should stop advertising " men should act like men," because of the fact that "they show men acting inappropriately."
Sea claims that if feminists were to stop advertising men acting inappropriately or stop advertising men should act like men then the less men would stop try to prove our dominance over women. Sea also claims that if such commercials are to advertised to reveal both sides of the gender in that situation to have less outrage from one or the others side of things. His claims sounds good however sexism has been around for countless days and if they were to abide by his claim they would have to change six billion people's minds, my guess is only a small fraction of that would change.

English 111:Evaluation Essay
Although hesitation is instinctively thought to be a bad action, it can be the best thing we do because of money reasons, the risks that come with actions without thinking, and things that will affect us permanently in the long run.
When you plan to go to the mall most people have what they are going to buy already in their minds, but somehow somewhere along the line of walking into a mall and trying to get what you came for you get distracted by that one store that always has something that makes you buy it as soon as you see it. Ok so now you have walked in that store picked up that item that caught your eye but then you realize you can't have that item without this item to go with it so you get that too. Now you're on your way to the cash register all of a sudden more items just so happen to fall in your hands and you think well it's here I might as well get it.
This is called impulse buying, and a good business knows that if they display something people will buy it, we all do it. Do you know how much money you would save if you hesitated a little bit before you actually buy something. If you stopped and you stopped and actually thought about it all sorts of reasons will pass through your mind like the cell phone bill that was due two days ago , or some money that you owe someone who just so happens to be the cashier that rings you up. So stop and hesitate and go home and sleep on it because 80 percent of the time when you wake up you're not going to have the desire to get it, however if you still have intrest in it then you know you really wanted it.
How often do you think before doing something, not very many times I'm guessing after all why should you have to think before going up or down the the stairs, or eat a bowl of cereal. Our bodies are so use to doing actions without thinking that we just do them. It's Friday night your phone has been ringing off the hook everyone is texting you telling you togo to the concert everyone is going to be there. You get up to go ask your parents to borrow the car and let them know what time you will be back, you go in and pop the question, and the answer is no. So now your parents are sleep and the keys are on the counter, you think to yourself I'll just be gone a few hours, however you don't think about the riks that follow so you snatch the keys, stuff your bed to make it look like you're in your bed sleeping and leave. The concert is nearly over everyone heads out to their cars and try to leave all at once, common sense would tell people to wait a few let it clear out some but do we think about that no, so as you're pulling out you see someones headlights coming at you, your first reaction is to step on the breaks which causes you to stop right in front of the them like a capital "T." All sorts of thoughts are going through your head the two main thoguhts are "what if I had sped up instead of pressing the breaks I might have gotten out of their way," also the one thought that rings over over "what if I hadn't have taken the car in the first place." Imagine if we hesitated and examined both sides of a situation before doing it, picture how much grief you would save yourself.
Different people have different opinions on tattoos, some hate them, some like them and others say they like them but it's not for them. People get tattoos for many reason like to represent where they are from, to portray who they, because a family member or someone close to them has past away, for tradition and culture, and believe it or not there are people who get a tattoo just because they can. For those who like tattoos do you stop to think how it might affect you permanetly in the future. When you have a scar like a burn on some part of your body sometimes you think "I wonder what what my skin looked like before that. That's how it is with a tattoo, people get them and then wonder what their body parts looked like before the tattoo.By that time it's too late, there is a way to remove a tattoo but that leaves a nasty scar that looks worst than having the tattoo, in which both are permanetly on you for ever. Also tattoos don't look as good when you get older as they do when you are young. Smaller tattoos look alright when you get old it's the bigger one that you have to stretch out to see what it is. Young men often make the mistake of getting their girlfriend's name tattooed on them and most of those relationships don't last but the name is there permanetly. If we hesitated before spending money on things we don't need, before acting on impluse, and before getting things that will affect us permanetly we can save ourselves alot of headaches in the future.

Introduction
Curtis Watkins, born on August 2, 1989. Originally I was born in Roanoke Virginia but I only lived there for the boring half of my life. For the more interesting half of my life I lived in Killeen Texas. I played football for one year in Texas and one year in Alaska. I enjoy going to the gym on my spare time which isn't ofthen if I may add, I'm not a big fan on running though so i only lift weights. I have two other brothers and one sister.
I love to watch movies, I prefer not to go to the theater I just buy or rent them. My favorite shoe is Jordan 23's, I own 14 pair of them and most of them are the exact same shoe just different colors which to me is an entirely different shoe. I alos happen to enjoy the one thing that i am denied often which is sleep. I also listen to music, I'm not the type to limit my ears to a certain style if it sounds good to me I listen. I'm currently trying to learn how to play the piano, I'v mastered two songs already, "Easy" and "Heart and Soul." I'm looking foward to working as well as having a great semester with you all.

Writing Assignment #1 English 111 The Balanced and the Unblanced3
This will be my first semester in college thus being my very first web-based course, it's not that difficult so for but I'm still nervous because I think about the fact that we still have several more weeks to go so anything can happen between now and then. I live in Alaska and have been for about a year and a few months. I am taking two other classes and also have a full-time job. My job takes up most of my time and when I'm not working I'm either doing school work or trying to get some sleep. However, on the bright side having this online course helps me out because I do have timw at my place-of-business to pull out a pen and paper to brainstorm or jot down a couple of lines or notes, however that's not enough time to sit in class.
Being a dependent of the military has its ups and downs. Some of those ups are you do get to travel often, you get to see so much. On the reverse side of thingsif your not the type who enjoys traveling or seeing new things then it can be hard. The process of moving from location to location and trying to settle in while getting use to your new surroundings can be a bit overwhelming.I blelieve the most difficult thing for me in english is actually coming up with something interesting to work around, but once I get passed that it just flows like a down hill river.
I'm the middle child in my family which means I have responsibilities. They expect me to set examples in life to follow such as going to college. My job gives me two consecutive days off in which thats when the majority of my school work will be completed. To keep from getting over overwhelmed and consumed by work I split my week up, so on Monday and Tuesday I work on things from one class, Wednesday and Thursday it's work from another class, Friday and Saturday it's my web-based class time and finally Sunday is the day I use to play catch up.
